At the launch of the Westlodge Hotel Fastnet Rally were Deputy Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Mary Hegarty; Miss Bantry, Laura Power and Mayor of Bantry, Kathleen Tessyman.

THE launch of the Westlodge Hotel Fastnet Rally took place on Friday evening last at the Westlodge Hotel in Bantry in front of a large attendance.

The event, organised by the Skibbereen and District Car Club, will take place on the October Bank Holiday weekend.

The rally moved to Bantry for the very first time last year and proved to be an outstanding success with strong support from the local community.

The service area will again be located within the town square ensuring a great atmosphere and the town square is also the location for the ceremonial start on Saturday, October 27th.


Present at the launch was last year’s winner, Midleton’s, Daragh O’Riordan who will defend his title this year.

Also present was double British Rally Champion, Keith Cronin and other local drivers including Denis Cronin and Damien McCarthy.

Rally co-drivers, Helen O’Sullivan, Sorcha Kelly, Breda O’Driscoll and Nicole O’Shea were also present.


Mayor of Bantry, Kathleen Tessyman; Deputy Mayor of County Cork, Cllr Mary Hegarty and fellow Cork county councillors Dermot Sheehan, Patrick Gerard Murphy and Noel O’Donovan were also present.

Meanwhile, it was also announced that Carbery Plastics have come on board as secondary sponsors with C103 continuing its role as media partner for the Westlodge Hotel Fastnet Rally.
