The man was taken to Kinsale.

THE single occupant of a small motor yacht had to be rescued by emergency services on Saturday afternoon when the vessel caught fire and sank about two miles off of Seven Heads.

The man made a distress call at around 2pm and was assisted by a nearby pleasure craft who managed to get him aboard before the boat sank.

The Courtmacsherry Lifeboat was launched and the Naval Service vessel, LE Niamh which was in the area also assisted in putting out the blaze.

The man was transferred to Kinsale where he was said to be shocked by what had happened but did not sustain any serious injuries.
