The view over the beach is stunning, big wide windows afford great views as you to sit in the lobby, enjoying a drink before waiting to be seated for dinner at one of the stylishly decorated tables.
A wedding was going on in the hotel at the time of our visit so I was slightly worried there would be a lot of loud music, or that the attention of the staff would not be 100 per cent as a result.
I couldn’t have been more wrong as in the restaurant there was a lovely atmosphere with some nice classical music playing discreetly in the background.
The menu offers a good selection of local produce.
There is also a three-course menu option for €28 per person as well as the a la carte menu.
There was a great choice on both menus so it was easy for my wife and myself to find something we liked.
I was particular impressed by the exceptionally friendly service and the quality of food.
I wanted to write a series about west Cork food producers this summer, but was somehow too busy to get to it
I can’t tell which cheese tasted best, was it the Cooldaniel Blue Cheese from Macroom, or the Carrigaline farmhouse cheese which was so creamy?
The Gubbeen cheese and the Bandon Vale Red Cheddar completed that little assembly.
To summarize, the perfect and friendly service, the unique location with the tasteful not over decorated dining room and quality of food made this experience the best restaurant experience for me in 2012.
Also regarding value for money this experience was the best, including the restaurants I have visited in Germany, Austria, Italy and France.
