LAST weekend Garry Minihane and Shane Keohane from Skibbereen competed in the Gaelforce West Adventure Race, which is the largest one-day adventure race of its kind in the world.
It is a multi-sport adventure race involving cycling, running, hiking and kayaking.
The course of approximately 67km stretches from the stunning Glassilaun beach in Galway to Westport Co. Mayo.
En-route there are some significant obstacles to cross, including Killary Harbour, running through bogs, along mountain paths and up Croagh Patrick.
Competitors also cycle along small country roads and a dirt track on which they have to carry their bikes.
More than 2,000 competitors took part in the race and Garry and Shane completed the course in 6.5 hours.
It started with at 14k off road run, a 2 k kayak, a 3.5k bog run, 34k cycle, a hike up and down Croagh Patrick, a 12 k cycle and a 1 k run to the finish line.
