RTÉ’s popular Nationwide programme is dedicated tonight (Wednesday, August 15th) to the 90th Anniversary Beal Na Blath commemoration due to take place this coming Sunday.
The programme looks back on a dark period of Irish history, the civil war and features this Sunday’s commemoration.
People from all over the country and beyond will gather at Beal na mBlaith to mark 90th anniversary of the ambush where General Collins was killed and the oration will be given by the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny.
RTÉ reporter Eoin Ryan has been looking back on the history of the commemoration and on how it has developed and changed in the last 89 years.
The programme will also feature Michael Collins Tours that take visitors to the important sites in West Cork associated with the famous patriot and the Michael Collins heritage and interpretive centre.
The show also looks at a special commemorative coin marking the 90th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins which has recently been launched by the Central Bank of Ireland in Dublin.
The programme airs at 7pm.
