Deputy McCarthy said, “From exploring dungeons in Kinsale to learning about life as a Tudor in Skibbereen, Heritage Week has plenty of fun-filled and informative activities on offer for West Cork families when it kicks off on August 18th.”
The local TD said that Heritage Week is a wonderful initiative that comes at a time when schools are closed and many families have a bit more time on their hands to explore the heritage in their local communities.
He said it reminds people about the importance of local communities in embracing their heritage and also teaches them about taking a lead role in caring for it.
“I would like to pay tribute to the dedicated individuals behind local Heritage Week events and who have been working hard to make this year’s programme better than ever.
“Community involvement is at the heart of Heritage Week and to this end, I would encourage locals, young and old, to embrace the fantastic event and to reflect on all that is positive and beautiful in our community,” he said.
