JOHN Ross from Durrus has been elected as the new Mayor of Muintir Bhaire Parish in the competition run by Muintir Bhaire Foroige Club.

John was one of 27 individuals who were nominated to become mayor with 10 of them out in the lead early into the count.

When the count was finished there were six potential candidates Eileen Lehane, Kilcrohane; James O’Mahony, Kilcrohane; Shane Arundel, Ahakista; Tadgh Hegarty, Ahakista; John Ross, Durrus and Paul Stock, Durrus.

An independent adjudicator reviewed the comments on why one of the six people should become mayor and decided on the winner for the following reasons which were given by the voters:

This person is: A central character and a good representative for the Muintir Bhaire Parish.

A regular contributor to local charitable organisations and involved in funding raising for local youth and sporting groups.

A good ambassador for the peninsula because they always promote the area.

A great man and pulls a good pint!

There could only be one winner and John Ross was appointed Mayor of Muintir Bhaire Parish on behalf of Muintir Bhaire Foroige Club on Sunday, August 5th at the Ahakista Festival Regatta.
