A DIVE boat Barramundi with eight people on board experienced engine failure near the Kedges rock outside Baltimore Harbour this morning.

The alarm was raised at 12:25 and within minutes Helmsman Youen Jacob with crew Mícheál Cottrell and Ronan Callanan were on their way in the in-shore lifeboat Bessie to offer assistance.

They found the 6.5 metre Ribcraft at anchor 100 yards off the Kedges.

The divers had not yet commenced diving when their engine broke down.

The divers had then thrown out an anchor to avoid being pushed onto the rocks nearby.

The lifeboat crew secured the RIB and towed her back into the safety of Baltimore Harbour.

All were returned safe to dry land within an hour of the bleepers going off.
