New state-of-the-art lifeboat station officially opens in Castletownbere

rnliCASTLETOWNBERE’S new state-of-the-art lifeboat station has been officially opened by well-known marine journalist Tom MacSweeney.

 

The new €950,000 station includes a new two-storey building as well as a new pontoon for the Severn Class lifeboat the Annette Hutton.

Vintage cars take to the road

vintage-carsTHE West Cork Vintage Club annual run takes place this Sunday (May 19th) starting at the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery and heading to Baltimore via the scenic route through Glandore and Union Hall.

 

Up to 100 cars are exepected to take part including the classic Ford Cortina once owned by former Taoiseach Jack Lynch.

24 hour event from Mizen Head to Malin Head

IRISH sporting heroes Marcus Horan and Gerry Duffy turned out to support the Coast to Coast, Mizen to Malin cyclists, as they trained for the big event, which will raise funds for cancer research at The Mercy Hospital Foundation, Cork.

 

The non stop cycle from Goleen, Mizen Head to Slievebawn, Malin Head in Co. Donegal will be undertaken by 5 brave cyclists. They will cover 637 kilometres, all in the space of 24 hours. [Read more...]

Local company Folláin goes from strength to strength

FOLLÁINFolláin Traditional Irish Preserves started life in the kitchen of Peadar and Máirín O’Lionáird twenty nine years ago in Cúil Aodha, near Macroom in West Cork.
