TAOISEACH Enda Kenny has offically launched a new walking trail which has been described as Ireland’s answer to the famed “Camino de Santiago” in Spain.

 

The Beara Breifne Way is a 600km walking trail running from the Beara Peninsula to Breifne, County Leitrim following the line of Donal Cam O’Sullivan Beare’s march in the aftermath of the Battle of Kinsale in 1602.

McCarthy welcomes “surge” in 2013 visitor numbers

LABOUR TD for Cork South West, Michael McCarthy, has welcomed the latest tranche of tourism figures from the CSO which show a strong surge in the number of trips to Ireland so far this year.

 

“The positive trajectory regarding growth in our tourism sector continues. Today’s figures from the CSO reaffirm my belief that Irish tourism is not just bouncing back, but actually enjoying strong growth, with overall trips to Ireland up 7.4% in the first three months of the year.

TOURISM Minister Michael Ring has unveiled the final route for the Wild Atlantic Way, a new touring route running from West Cork to Donegal.

 

The Minister joined Fáilte Ireland to present the final route to 300 top overseas tour operators attending Meitheal 2013, Ireland’s largest tourism trade fair.

A PRESTIGIOUS travel publication showcasing Chléire Haven on Cape Clear hit the newsstands in the United States this month, profiling ‘glamping’ and yurt holidays here to thousands of avid American readers and potential holidaymakers.

 

The current edition of National Geographic Traveler, the world’s most widely-read travel magazine with a circulation of about 8.5 million readers, includes an article titled “Ireland’s Green Scene” with some great ideas for boutique camping holidays here – including Chléire Haven on Cape Clear island. BUSINESSES along the successful Sheep’s Head Way walking route are pulling together to form a new tourism co-operative which will help to promote tourism on the Sheep’s Head peninsula, as well as in Bantry and the surrounding areas, to an international audience.

 

“When we work together, we can make a much bigger impact than we can when we each work on our own”, explains John Tobin, the chair of the co-op’s founding committee.

West Cork tourism boost as visitor numbers continue to rise

tourism1THE latest tourism statistics showing that visitor numbers are continuing to rise have been welcomed in West Cork.

The new figures from the Central Statistics Office show a five per cent increase in visitor numbers from October to December in 2012 to 1,438,000.
