SPEECHWRITERS for Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be in for ticking off after it emerged that the Fine Gael leader made something of an error during his historic speech delivered at Béal na mBláth last Sunday.

 

 

He was the first serving Taoiseach to deliver the oration at the event which this year marked the 90th anniversary of the assassination of the first Commander in Chief of the Irish Army.

THE rain held off, just, as a crowd of more than 6,000 people turned up at Beal na Blath to mark the 90th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins on that lonely stretch of road near Crookstown.

 

 

Taoiseach Enda Kenny became the first serving holder of that office to deliver the address and was joined by several other senior party members to underline the significance of the anniversary.

Council want State to back Swansea-Cork Ferry

CORK county councillors have written to the Taoiseach and Simon Coveney, the Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food urging them to look at State intervention to save the Swansea – Cork ferry.

A last gasp rescue plan to save the ferry, which was operated by the West Cork Tourism Co-op, failed at the final hurdle two weeks ago when Enterprise Ireland declined to stump up €400,000 for the service citing a breach of competition regulations.

Now county councillors are looking to the Government to save the service which has brought more than 150,000 visitors to Cork over the past two years.
