Schull Community College Sailing – great success in 2012

THE year started with a win in April at the Irish School’s Team Racing Nationals followed in May by a win at the British U21 Championships and again a win at the British Schools Nationals in July, the team consisted of, Oisin O’Driscoll, Connor Miller, Fionn Lyden, Katie Moynihan, Ellen O’Regan and Mark Hassett.

Brewin Dolphin Dragon Gold Cup 2012 launched in Kinsale

MORE than Over 250 competitors, supporters and guests attended the Opening Ceremony for the Brewin Dolphin Dragon Gold Cup 2012 at a reception at Kinsale Yacht Club.

 

The Dragon Gold Cup is considered the open World Cup of Dragon Sailing with over 60 boats from 16 countries and several world champions and ex-olympians competing for this prestigious trophy, hosted by Kinsale Yacht Club from 8th-14th September.

West Cork Paralympian bids for sailing medal

WEST Cork Paralympian John Twomey will be bidding for his third Paralympics medal at the upcoming games in London.

 

 

The Kinsale native will be competing in the Sonar Sailing Class at the London Games where he will be joined by two other members of the Kinsale Yacht Club, Ian Costello and Anthony Hearty.

Kinsale Yacht Club announce two major events

CAMERON Good, Commodore of Kinsale Yacht Club announced details of two major events for KYC this year.

The Optimist National Championships (31st July – 4th August) and The Brewin Dolphin Dragon Gold Cup (8th-14th September) are due to attract huge number of sailors to Kinsale and, in turn, are expected to benefit the local economy.

UK team clinch Schull world championship

THE West Kirby Sailing Club from the Wirral in the UK are the new International Sailing Federation (ISAF) team racing world champions following an intense weekend of competition in Schull.

West Kirby were the best of the 12 teams who competed over four days of sailing in the scenic West Cork setting despite a strong effort from New York Yacht Club representing the USA to claim the prize.

Schull Community College representing Ireland also did extremely well reaching the final of the World Youth Championship, narrowly missing out in the final, which was also won by West Kirby.
