CORK County roads are set to benefit from €40 million under the 2013 local and regional roads fund, which has been announced by the Department of Transport, but the future is rough for West Cork roads, warns Dunmanway-based independent councillor Declan Hurley.

 

According to Cllr Hurley the allocation received for regional and local roads for 2013 is almost €46.5m and will be spent on the completion of specific projects and on routine improvements and restoration works, but this he says still falls “a long way short” of addressing the real scale of the disastrous road conditions around the county.

West Cork to benefit from €40 million road funding for Co. Cork

TOWNS across West Cork are set to benefit from the €40 million road funding allocation for County Cork just announced for local and regional road works in 2013.

 

Among the projects to get fundung is the Dunmanway Relief Road project which recieves €125,000; while Kinsale and Clonakilty Town Councils each receive €161,000 and Skibbereen Town Council gets €115,000.

Funding for flood repairs to local roads

LOCAL independent councillor Declan Hurley has confirmed that funding has been diverted to address a number of local roads in the greater Dunmanway area which were damaged in the recent severe flash floods.

In particular roads in Haremount, Monavadda and Derryleigh had to be closed to traffic due to the severity of the damage. [Read more...]

More funds allocated to protect roads this winter

BANDON-based Labour councillor Gearóid Buckley has welcomed the news that an additional €161,694 has been allocated to Cork County Council’s winter road maintenance funding.

The additional funding brings Corks County Council’s total Winter Maintenance grant to €1,445,246.

“This increase of €161,694 is very much welcomed. Last year our roads were devastated by a severe winter cold spell, and with forecasts predicting similar artic conditions again this year, our roads are destined to fall casualty to the elements.
