TAOISEACH Enda Kenny has offically launched a new walking trail which has been described as Ireland’s answer to the famed “Camino de Santiago” in Spain.

 

The Beara Breifne Way is a 600km walking trail running from the Beara Peninsula to Breifne, County Leitrim following the line of Donal Cam O’Sullivan Beare’s march in the aftermath of the Battle of Kinsale in 1602.

Review of fiscal terms for oil and gas production welcomed

FINE Gael Cork South West Deputy, Noel Harrington, has welcomed the commitment by the Minister Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte TD, to undertake a review of the fiscal terms for oil and gas production, saying this could go a considerable way to increasing the confidence of the oil and gas exploration industry and attract future investment in Ireland.

€90 million funding released for Leader projects

ENVIRONMENT Minister Phil Hogan has confirmed that €90 million funding is being released for the Leader elements of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

The Leader programme is operated in West Cork by the West Cork Development Partnership supporting both voluntary and business enterprise projects in the area.

West Cork harbours and piers to benefit from €234,000 funding

ALMOST a quarter of a million euro has been allocated to harbour projects and coastal development programmes in West Cork.

 

The funding has been made available under the Fishery Harbours and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme 2013.

WEST Cork Fine Gael TD Noel Harrington has welcomed the announcement by the Government of a comprehensive plan to tackle mortgage arrears.

 

“Today’s announcement by the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD, of the Government’s plan to tackle mortgage arrears, puts unprecedented measures in place to deal with this issue. Some 94,500 homeowners are in arrears for more than 90 days and 23,500 are in arrears for over 720 days.

THE ending of 24-hour casualty department services at Bantry General Hospital will see many West Cork patients facing a more than 100 mile round trip for emergecy services, that’s according to local Fianna Fáil senator Denis O’Donovan.

 

The changes were announced in the recently published new HSE area plans which outline cuts of €721m in health service budgets across the country.

Funding boost for West Cork harbours

HARBOURS across West Cork are set to benefit from more than €2,5 million in funding announced by the Department of Transport.

 

The €2,632,000 in funding which is being made available for the maintenance and upgrade of a number of Cork harbours, as part of the agreement which sees the ownership of such transferred to local authorities.
