THERE are many Gaelgóirí i gCloch na gCoillte, and many more people who may not be fluent, but would love the opportunity to use the “cúpla focail” they have every now and again.

 

However, in many instances these people don’t know each other, and probably pass each other on the street every day not knowing they could exchange a simple “Dia dhuit” or “Conas atá tú?” as they go about their daily business.

THE Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Environment & Local Government, Barry Cowen TD was guest speaker at a public meeting on the topic of “Rural survival” held in Clonakilty recently.

 

During a lengthy speech, Mr Cowen said that the Government’s “softly softly” approach in dealing with the issue of Ireland’s bank debt had failed.

COUNCILLORS from County Cork’s 12 town councils are seeking a meeting with Environment Minister Phil Hogan in the hope of changing the minister’s mind on plans to abolish town councils.

 

Under plans announced last year all 80 existing town councils across the country face the axe at the 2014 local elections.

Clonakilty protest against lack of action on flood relief

THERE were protests by angry traders and residents in Clonakilty on Tuesday evening outside the regular monthly meeting of the local town council.

 

The protesters claim that little has been done since the disastrous floods three months ago devastated the town centre.
