CROWDS gathered on the streets of Macroom on Saturday evening to welcome home the town’s latest local hero, boxer Noel Murphy of Macroom Boxing Club in Masseytown.

Noel won the gold medal in the 69kg category at the All Ireland Open Youth Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin by beating Jason McDonagh of the St Annes club in Westport Co. Mayo on a score of 10-6.

Macroom fundraiser for Community Hospital

THE Macroom and District Gun Club raised €600 for Macroom Community Hospital, during a recent wild game tasting night at Mary Anne’s Bar, Masseytown.

On the menu was pheasant, duck, woodcock, snipe, venison and rabbit, all contributed by club members.

The club thanked chef Brian Granville of Granville’s Bar & Grill, Castle Street gave up his time to call over to cook and serve the up food on the night.

Arrest in Macroom investigation

The man was taken to Bandon Garda Station

GARDAÍ in Macroom investigating the death of 42-year-old Don Geasley last month have arrested and charged a 30-year-old male.

The man was arrested this morning and taken to Bandon Garda Station where he is being detained under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He is due to appear at Bantry District Court tomorrow.

Mr Geasley’s body was discovered by his landlord at his rented house in Lower Masseytown, Macroom on the morning of Thursday, September 15th last.

Man released in relation to Macroom death

THE 30-year-old man who had been detained in connection with the death of Don Geasley at his rented house in Masseytown, Macroom earlier this week has been released without charge.

The man was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and brought for questioning to Bandon Garda Station.

Macroom search moves to UK

Lower Masseytown

THE man gardaí want to interview in relation to the death of Don Geasley in Macroom last Thursday is believed to have left for the UK.

It is understood that the 30-year-old who is from Macroom may be staying with relatives in the Liverpool area.

Gardaí believe he may have information that can help establish the last movements of Mr Geasley before he was assaulted at his rented house in Lower Masseytown either late on Wednesday night or early on Thursday morning.

Macroom victim was assaulted – arrested man released

A POST-mortem carried out on the body of 42-year-old Don Geasley indicates it is likely Mr Geasley died of injuries sustained during an assault.

Mr Geasley’s body was discovered by his landlord in Lower Masseytown, Macroom at 10.30am on Thursday morning.

He was lying in a pool of blood and appeared to have suffered serious head injuries.

A man who was arrested on Thursday for questioning in connection with the incident has now been released.

Gardaí are continuing to examine the crime scene and are also conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area.

Mr Geasley had been living in Macroom for the past two years after returning to Ireland from England.

An unemployed, single man, he was originally from the Commons Road in Cork city.

Gardaí in Macroom are appealing for anyone who may have seen Don Geasley between 6pm on Wednesday, September 14th and 10am on Thursday, September 15th to contact them on 026 20590.

GARDAÍ have arrested a man in connection with the suspicious death of 42-year-old Don Geasley whose body was found in his rented house in Masseytown, Macroom on Thursday morning.

Mr Geasley who was originally from the Commons Road in Cork city was found by his landlord lying in a pool of blood with extensive head injuries.

A man in his 30s was arrested on Thursday night and was detained at Bandon Garda Station for questioning.

Body found in Masseytown house

GARDAÍ in Macroom are investigating the discovery of a body in the Masseytown area.

The body, believed to be that of a 42-year-old Irish male was discovered at 10am on Thursday morning.

A cause of death will not be determined until a post mortem is carried out by Assistant State Pathologist Margaret Bolster.
