CASTLETOWNBERE fisherman Noel O’Sullivan knows a thing or two about the dangers of the ocean after managing to survive when his boat capsized off the Isles of Scilly in 2007.
Now Noel has been chosen as the first “ambassador” for a joint safety campaign from Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Irish Water Safety (IWS) and the RNLI aimed at encouraging fishermen to wear their lifejackets.
Noel and his six crew survived when their boat Discovery capsized in January 2007 but he says the experience has made him very conscious of crew safety ever since.
