THE Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources under Minister Pat Rabbitte is to investigate the availability of the new national digital TV service Saorview in parts of rural West Cork.
Concerns have been raised that the area between Dunmanway and Rosscarbery in particular suffers from very poor reception due to the large number of hills and valleys.
THE new, improved Old Mill Stores has opened in Connonagh selling stoves plus all sorts of handpicked homewares, interesting interiors items, groovy gifts and things that defy categorisation.
The new store replaces the former OVNE Antique Stoves premises at the same location.

WOULD you believe it? Two entrepreneurial teens from Leap Foróige Club have developed an iPhone App that translates Cork English into mainstream English.
Sixteen-year-olds Austin Keane and Liam Horgan are also members of Foróige’s democratically elected Reference Panel.
The idea sprang from hearing locals in West Cork using phrases that the lads had never heard outside of their native county.
THE National Roads Authority (NRA) have approved funding of €1.2 million for repairs and improvements to two sections of the main N71 road in West Cork.
Six hundred thousand euro has been allocated for overlaying the damaged section from Leap to Connonagh and another €600,000 for the section between and Connonagh and Rosscarbery.
Efforts are also being made by the members of the Western Committee of Cork County Council to have substantial funding allocated from the NRA annual budget to bring the N71 up to “an acceptable standard for the national primary route from Cork city to West Cork”.
