Insurance “solidarity levy” needed for flooded homeowners

FINE Gael Cork South West Deputy, Jim Daly is calling on the Government to work with the insurance industry to establish a “solidarity insurance flood fund” which could meet the needs of home owners who cannot obtain insurance on their property as a result of having claimed for flood damage in the past.

 

Deputy Daly will be meeting with the CEO of the Irish Insurance Federation, Kevin Thompson, next week to discuss this proposal and to seek support from the Federation.

FINE Gael Cork South West TD Jim Daly, has accused Sinn Féin TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn of “talking rubbish” about possible savings in the public sector.

 

Deputy Daly was speaking after Deputy Mac Lochlainn claimed that capping public sector salaries at €100,000 would save €165 million.

FINE Gael Cork South West Deputy, Jim Daly has slammed what he called the opportunistic and populist approach taken by Fianna Fáil in proposing an independent Mortgage Resolution Office to act as an arbiter between banks and borrowers in coming to mortgage and debt resolution agreements.

 

“The showboating from Fianna Fáil in proposing that an appeal board should decide what amount of money banks should be repaid from distressed borrowers who cannot meet outstanding loans is unrealistic, unviable and a potentially toxic idea.

A NEW Government pilot scheme which asks local communities to stump-up up to half the cost of repairs and improvements for regional and local roads has come in for criticism in West Cork.

The Pilot Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) asks for contributions from communities of 20% to 50% of the total cost, in monetary terms or in kind, by supplying labour or machinery directly for repairs to potholes and road strengthening works, the removal of grass verges or banks and the opening of backshores and other works.

€200,000 funding for state-of-the-art Ballineen / Enniskeane playground

A €200,000 grant is to be awarded to Ballineen and Enniskeane Development Association for the upgrade of a community and recreation area under the Rural Development Programme.

 

The entire project which will cost €267,000 will include the creation of a multi-sport court, children’s playground, adult fitness zone and upgraded parking facilities, at Ballineen/Enniskeane. [Read more...]

Funding approved for Clon sewerage scheme

The scheme should get rid of the smells in Clonakilty Bay.

THE Department of the Environment has approved funding of €5.5 million for the upgrading of the Clonakilty Town Sewerage Scheme.

 

 

The contract to upgrade, design, build and operate the scheme was successfully bid for by EPS at a cost of just under €5.5 million.
