DUNMANWAY-based independent councillor Declan Hurley was recently elected as deputy mayor of County of Cork at the County Council’s first meeting of the New Year.
Normally the office of deputy mayor is held for one year, but at the AGM last June in a change from tradition, independent councillor Noel Collins was proposed for the position only to accept the title, if councillor Declan Hurley was allowed the title for the second half of the yearly term, which was passed by members across the chamber.
