IAN Bailey gave a public talk to the West Cork Philosophical Society at the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen recently.

 

The well-known Schull resident who is now a legal academic gave the wide-ranging talk to about 30 people on the subject of jurisprudence and the philosophical basis of law.

Bailey legal team seek costs

LEGAL representatives for Ian Bailey are seeking costs “at the highest level” from the State that could run into millions of euro following Mr Bailey’s successful challenge against extradition proceedings in the Supreme Court.

The legal costs claim includes items not usually claimed for such as the cost of French legal advice.

The Schull resident is wanted for questioning by French authorities who are carrying out a new investigation into the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in Toormore in 1996.

We were “sold a pup” – Senator wants answers in du Plantier case

THE people of West Cork were “sold a pup” by gardaí over the Ian Bailey affair, local Fianna Fáil senator Denis O’Donovan has said in the Seanad.

The Bantry-based senator who is a lawyer himself said that the revelations about the Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder inquiry meant that in reality the French film producer’s killer was most likely still at large.

Minister speaks out over Bailey case criticism

THE Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, has issued a statement refuting claims published in the Sunday Business Post under the headline “Government tried to conceal key parts of Bailey case investigation”.

According to the minister the allegation is “completely misleading”.

Minister Shatter said that documents which emerged from the DPP about the case were brought to the attention of the Attorney General and arrangements were made to inform solicitors on all sides before the Supreme Court proceedings. [Read more...]

Ian Bailey wins appeal against extradition to France

THE Supreme Court in Dublin has upheld Ian Bailey’s appeal against his extradition to France.

The five judges of the court made the decision unanimously.

Mr Bailey is wanted for questioning by the French authorities who have initiated a new investigation into the 1996 murder of French woman Sophie Toscan du Plantier at Toormore, near Schull.

Mr Bailey who lives near Schull was questioned twice in relation to the killing during the original investigation but never charged.

Sophie parents arrive in West Cork

THE parents of French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier who was murdered near her holiday home at Toormoore, Schull in 1996 arrived at Cork Airport today (Tues).

Georges and Marguerite Bouniol will attend mass in Goleen this coming Sunday to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Sophie’s death. [Read more...]

THE Supreme Court in Dublin reserved its judgement on Ian Bailey’s appeal against extradition to France for two to three weeks today.

Mr Bailey is wanted for questioning in France in connection with the killing of French national Sophie Toscan du Plantier near her holiday home at Toormore, Schull in 1996.

Bailey appeal hearing begins today

THE Supreme Court in Dublin will today begin hearing the appeal from Ian Bailey against his extradition to France which was ordered by the High Court.

Mr Bailey is wanted for questioning by French authorities as part of a new investigation into the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier near her holiday home near Toormore, Schull in 1996.

He was questioned twice as part of the original garda investigation but has always denied any involvement in the killing.
