More than 250 concerned Kenmare area residents turned out for a meeting at Pobailscoil Inbhear Sceine recently to express their alarm over rumours that the National Ambulance Service is planning to reduce ambulance service in Kenmare.

 

Under the new proposal Kenmare would have ambulance service from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but only an ambulance car available from 8pm. to 8am.

CONCERNS have been voiced by a number of Bantry town councillors at the recently announced re-organisation of services at Bantry General Hospital (BGH).

 

At a recent town council meeting the members agreed that a Health Service Executive (HSE) representative should attend a meeting of the council to outline the changes and how they will effect the people of Bantry and the surrounding areas.

THE ending of 24-hour casualty department services at Bantry General Hospital will see many West Cork patients facing a more than 100 mile round trip for emergecy services, that’s according to local Fianna Fáil senator Denis O’Donovan.

 

The changes were announced in the recently published new HSE area plans which outline cuts of €721m in health service budgets across the country.

THE Health Service Executive have confirmed that West Cork will retain four ambulances as services across the region are transferred from an “on-call” to fully rostered “on-duty” system.

 

The confirmation came today (Monday) from Fine Gael TD Noel Harrington who said that the HSE had confirmed that four emergency ambulances would be retained in West Cork as well as an Advanced Paramedic Transport and a non-emergency routine transfer ambulance both to be based in Bantry.

Get the Vaccine – Not the Flu, get vaccinated against influenza as the flu season is now here

THE HSE is urging people in at-risk groups to get vaccinated against influenza, as the flu season is now here.

Flu can be a very serious illness, especially for people who are older or who have a long-term illness.

 

Uptake figures for HSE South show that 55.1% of people aged 65 and over who hold a medical card or GP visit card received the flu vaccine during the 2011-2012 flu season. [Read more...]

Gardaí find killer drug dumped in field

GARDAÍ investigating the suspicious deaths of two young men in Kinsale at the weekend have found 200 grams of the drug they suspect caused the deaths dumped in a field near Bishopstown.

 

The drug, known as “Mandy” is a mixture of MDMA (the main ingredient in Ecstasy) and PMMA and is sold in a brown powdered form.

GARDAÍ investigating the suspicious deaths of two young men in Kinsale at the weekend say their top priority is to get the lethal drug they believe was responsible off the streets as quickly as possible.

 

The drug, known as “Mandy” is a mixture of MDMA (the main ingredient in Ecstasy) and PMMA and is sold in a brown powdered form.

THE HSE has this afternoon (Tuesday) urged drug users to exercise extreme caution following the tragic deaths of two 22-year-old males in Kinsale in the early hours of Sunday morning.

 

 

The HSE urges drug users to be cautious in particular about taking a brown powder substance in the Cork area known to contain Methylamphetamine (MDMA Ecstasy) and Paramethoxymethamphetamine (PMMA)
