Anger as household charge letters arrive – for homes that have already paid

HOMEOWNERS across West Cork today received letters from Cork County Council demanding payment for the new Household Charge – despite the fact that they have already paid.

 

 

It has also emerged that homeowners who do not inform Cork County Council of the error themselves may be liable for a fine. [Read more...]

CORK County Council have advised that the have received reports that bogus callers have been visiting houses in Cork County under the pretence of collecting the household charge.

Penalising local authorities for household charge saga “a disgrace”

Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, is now penalising local authorities for the chaos that he created in the household charge saga and it is a disgrace.

 

 

Not only is it deeply unfair, it will lead to serious funding problems in city and county councils around the country.

Cork County Council has been notified that its funding will be cut by €3.9 million in 2012. The Council will be unable to keep its commitments to local communities in the face of such a significant cut.

Sinn Féin to protest household charge in Bandon

SINN Féin members will hold a demonstration in Bandon this weekend in opposition to the €100 household charge.

Bandon Town Councillor Rachel McCarthy called on the Government to end what she described as “their scaremongering and bullyboy tactics” on the household charge.

29 West Cork estates exempt from Household Charge

RESIDENTS of 29 estates across West Cork will be breathing a sigh of relief to find they are exempt from paying the controversial new €100 Household Charge this year.

The 29 estates are among just under 300 estates nationwide that have been granted an exemption from paying the charge because they are deemed to be incomplete in terms of public infrastructure such as lighting, footpaths and road surfaces.
