BANDON’S main drainage scheme is scheduled to go to tender in April 2013 and the town’s flood relief scheme works will begin in May 2014 it has been confirmed.
Work on stage 2 of the sewerage scheme was suspended in October due to contractual problems between Cork County Council and SIAC Construction Ltd.
COUNCILLOR Gearóid Buckley has encouraged people to engage in Cork County Council’s Active Travel survey for Bandon.
WORKS on stage 2 of the Bandon Sewerage Scheme have been suspended, Cork County Council has confirmed.
In the statement the council said, “Construction on the Bandon Sewerage Scheme – Stage 2 contract has been suspended due to events beyond the control of either party.
PLANS announced by Minister Phil Hogan to reform local government in Ireland which will include the abolition of local town councils have met with mixed reaction from councillors in West Cork.
Labour councillor in Bandon, Gearóid Buckley welcomed the announcement saying it represents “a new dawn” for local governance in Ireland.
MEMBERS of Bandon Town Council have passed a motion calling on Minister for Health Dr James O’Reilly to review the fluoridation of Irish water.
The move follows a presentation given to the council at its the April meeting by environmental scientist Declan Waugh.
LABOUR TD Michael McCarthy has been appointed director of the Labour Party’s campaign for the stability treaty referendum in Cork South-West, it has been announced.
Local area directors have also been confirmed, following a party meeting on Thursday night.

A MOTION at Bandon Town Council inviting water fluoride expert Declan Waugh to attend the May Town Council Meeting was passed at the April meeting.
Declan Waugh will present the findings of his recent report titled “Human Toxicity, Environmental Impact and Legal Implications of Water Fluoridation” at the meeting on Tuesday, May 8th next.
CORK County Council will make Harte’s Car Park in Bandon available free of charge from Saturday 26th November until Christmas Eve.
The announcement by Town Manager, Kevin O’Neill comes just days after County Manager Martin Riordan made €5,000 available to erect the Christmas lights in the town.
The news has been welcomed by local traders and representatives.
