THE village of Schull came to a stand still as mourners gathered to say farewell to little Clarrisa McCarthy and her father Martin.

 

As the bell tolled at St Mary’s Church in Schull, the single coffin was carried past the many relatives, neighbours and friends of the deceased, who stood, still in shock, at the recent tragic events. [Read more...]

MOURNERS gathered this week to bid farewell to the owner of Bantry House, Egerton Shelswell-White.

 

Mr Shelswell-White inherited Bantry House in 1978 and over the last three decades has redeveloped the well-known landmark into one of the country’s premier tourist attractions.

Bandon native killed in Norway kayak accident laid to rest

THE 24-year-old student from Bandon who died in a tragic kayaking accident in Norway last week was buried in Bandon today (Monday).

Colm Johnson from Clancoolmore, Bandon was on holiday with friends in Norway when the accident occurred as he was kayaking on the Sjoa River last Monday afternoon.

Farewell to “gentle giant” killed in tragic accident

A RANGER, due to celebrate his 22nd birthday has been laid to rest with military honours in Bantry after he was killed accidentally in a training exercise in the UK.

Ranger Michael Maguire, was fondly remembered as a gentle giant and a deeply professional soldier at requiem mass in St Joseph’s Church, Coomhola near Bantry.

A MEMORIAL service was held in Bandon today (Mon) for murder victim John “Johnny English” Forrester (42).

Members of Mr Forrester’s family from Blackpool and Lincoln in the UK including his four children Sophie (9), John (12), David (13), Aaron (14) and his father John attended the service at Gabriel & O’Donovan’s funeral home.

After the service the hearse carrying his body stopped for a moment at the spot where it was recovered just outside the town before carrying on to Ringaskiddy for his cremation.

Bandon victim will not be buried until next year

THE funeral of John “Johnny English” Forrester whose body was recovered from the River Bandon in mid-November about a mile downstream from Bandon Bridge is unlikely to be buried until well into January.

Gardaí launched a murder probe following the discovery of the 42-year-old father of four’s body who died from multiple stab wounds to his head and neck.

The body was also bound hand and foot and wrapped in a rug.

A PARISH priest described yesterday how a West Cork community was “in shock” and had been left in “total disbelief” following the violent events of last weekend that had left two people dead.

Father Myles McSweeney was speaking to a packed St Patrick’s Church in Bandon as Jonathan “Dukey” Duke (27) was laid to rest.

Final farewell to “our beautiful, handsome, little man”

HUNDREDS of mourners packed into St Mary’s Church in Leap to pay their last respects to 14-year Jonathan O’Regan who tragically died last Wednesday morning.

Jonathan who suffered from severe asthma and was a promising GAA star, died after collapsing at a sleepover at a friend’s house in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
