Gardaí find killer drug dumped in field

GARDAÍ investigating the suspicious deaths of two young men in Kinsale at the weekend have found 200 grams of the drug they suspect caused the deaths dumped in a field near Bishopstown.

 

The drug, known as “Mandy” is a mixture of MDMA (the main ingredient in Ecstasy) and PMMA and is sold in a brown powdered form.

THE share price of Irish oil exploration company Providence Resources has risen further on the news of another significant oil prospect off of the coast of West Cork.

The new discovery is in the Drombeg licence area about 200km south  of Castletownbere.

UNDERWATER archaeologists are investigating the wreck of a wooden merchant ship that carried a cargo of coconuts discovered during pipe works in Schull Harbour.

The ship, believed to date back to the 16th century, is buried in the seabed in 10m of water just off the shoreline.

Thomas unearths a piece of West Cork history

A PIECE of West Cork’s bloody history made an unexpected appearance in Castletownsend recently thanks to an eagled-eyed nine-year-old who was helping his father plant some shrubs in Castletownsend.

The discovery, an 18th Century lead musket-ball, was found by Abbeystrewry National School pupil Thomas Somerville who was helping dad Thomas  planting trees and shrubs in the area at the time.

West Cork gas discovery five times bigger than first thought

WEST Cork is set to become the powerhouse of the nation following the discovery of a 25 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF) gas field at Galley Head.

The find by Lansdowne Oil & Gas estimates the field to be five times larger than originally thought following a 3D seismic survey.

The Galley Head field is part of the wider Rosscarbery gas field network that to date is estimated to contain 199 BSCF of recoverable gas resources.

West Cork set for oil bonanza

OIL exploration company Providence Resources has confirmed that results form the Barryroe test rig some 40 miles off the West Cork coast has returned oil flows of more than 3,500 barrels per day.

Analysis also suggests the oil is of high quality and the field could contain up to a billion barrels.

The test results were much better than expected and though it is still early days it now looks increasingly likely that Barryroe could become Ireland’s first commercially productive oil field within the next two to three years.

Investigation launched over €200,000 drugs blaze

SKIBBEREEN gardaí want to talk to a number of people in connection with a major drug operation that was uncovered in the town  yesterday (Wednesday), lunch time.

A fire, believed to be due to an electrical fault with a heater used to aid the growth of cannabis plants  broke out in a first-floor front room in the building sometime after midday.

Fire crews from Skibbereen and Schull were called to attend at 12.30pm.

On entering the building using breathing apparatus they discovered what looked like a major cannabis growing operation on the first and second floors at the property.

GARDAÍ in Skibbereen have uncovered a major illegal drugs operation in the heart of the town after the property housing it caught fire.

The cannabis-growing factory was discovered in a property on North Street at around 12.30pm today after a fire broke out at the premises.

West Cork set for oil boom

Oil rigs like this could soon be seen off the West Cork Coast

WEST Cork could soon see it’s own mini oil-boom if the latest findings by oil exploration company Providence Resources prove to be true.

The Irish firm, headed by Tony O’Reilly have issued a report on the Barryroe Field in the Celtic Sea which indicates that it could become Ireland’s first commercially viable oil field.

So far the company has only drilled test wells to see if there is potential to bring the oil to the surface in commercial quantities.
