Pump School comes to children with diabetes in Cork

Children with type 1 diabetes who normally receive four to five insulin injections daily now have access to an alternative treatment via an insulin pump and attend to a dedicated “pump school” to learn to use the device.

 

An insulin pump is a mini computerised device, which continually infuses insulin under the skin and optimises the blood glucose control.

SOS campaign complete four-day protest walk to CUH

MEMBERS of the Save Our Service (SOS) West Cork ambulance campaign completed a four-day, 50-mile walk from Skibbereen to Cork University Hospital (CUH) today (Saturday) where they delivered a letter to the HSE in protest at proposed changes to ambulance services in West Cork.

 

The walkers pushed a stretcher with symbolic patient “Fred” (Fairly Rapid Emergency Delivery’) on board as the walkers passed through Skibbereen, Leap, Rosscarbery, Clonakilty, Bandon and Inishannon en-route to CUH.

Bed pushers hit the road – campaigners defiant as large crowd of supporters gather in Skibbereen

DESPITE the torrential overnight rain, criticism from a local TD and warnings from the Gardaí members of the West Cork SOS ambulance campaign defiantly hit the road today as they commenced a four-day stretcher push from Skibbereen to Cork.

 

A large crowd turned out in Skibbereen at 9am on Wednesday morning to support the stretcher pushers.

MEMBERS of the Save Our Service (SOS) ambulance campaign are determined to push on with a planned protest in Cork this week despite concerns raised by gardaí regarding a proposed stretcher push from Skibbereen to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

 

THE SOS campaign are undertaking the stretcher push in order to highlight ongoing concerns about the future of ambulance services in Skibbereen and the wider West Cork area.

Bowel Cancer Information Event

CORK South West TD Noel Harrington has urged West Cork people to attend a free Bowell Cancer information session being held by the HSE South at Cork University Hospital (CUH) from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, April 28th next in the main lecture theatre at CUH.

Deputy Harrington said, “Bowel cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in both men and women in Ireland, a fact that is not widely known”.

Woman critical following Schull RTA

A WOMAN is in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital (CUH) following a single vehicle accident that occurred near Schull this morning.

The accident happened on the Lowertown Road just west of Schull in the Lissacaha area at around 9.30am.

Two fire brigade units, gardaí and ambulance crews attended the scene and local diversions were expected to be in place for most of the day from Air Hill in Schull to the Lowertown creamery.
