A disappointing week for Cork City losing to Shamrock Rovers at home for the first time in 10 years after being dumped out of the cup by the same team the previous Friday night.

Top flight football returns to the Cross this year.

CORK City’s first point of the season against last years champions Shamrock Rovers, but 1-0 up and against 10 men for the last 20 minutess a draw felt like a loss.

City sat back and let Shamrocks attack, if Cork had put pressure on Shamrocks up the field then it could have been diverted.

Reasons for optimism

Top flight football returns to the Cross this year.

Another week and another loss, this time to Drogheda United at home who are tipped for a relegation battle.

But a few positives, Cork City have scored two goals, there were nearly 4,000 at the opening game and it was a very entertaining game with good passing football.

Cork have been slow out of the blocks but with experienced heads in Dan Murray, Danny Murphy, Colin Healy, Mark McNulty, Tadgh Purcell and promising young players like Daryl Horgan, John Dunleavy, Danny Morrissey John Kavanage and Rob Lehane things will improve.

Cork City ready for new season

Dan Murray returns to City this season.

THE pre-season is now over and in just a few days the new league season starts.

Away to UCD may not be the most glamorous game but at least live competitive football will be back.

Cork City will go into this league game as favorites but UCD have at times been a bogey team and after a surprising 2-1 defeat at home to SD Galway in a friendly on Saturday evening nothing will be taken for granted.

Cork City 3 – 2 Rockmount, Munster Senior Cup

ON a misty night at Rockmount a scrappy opening 20 minutes saw the sides level with a goal a piece following Cork City’s opener from Stephen Kenny on 10 minutes.

The home side levelled 10 minutes later, as a free kick into the box was headed home past Kevin Burns.

There were only a few more half chances in the first half but neither keeper was seriously threatened.

Soccer Scene – pre-season well underway

Top flight football returns to the Cross this year.

PRE-SEASON is well under way for Cork City FC who played Limerick FC in a friendly out in Bishopstown last Saturday.

The result was a 2-2 draw with Dan Murray and Shane O’Connor getting Cork City’s goals while City old boy Denis Behan, and Shane Tracy getting Limerick’s goals. Limerick will be a very strong Division One team and big favourites to win the division.

Cork won’t want to face Limerick in any of the cup competitions that’s for sure.

CLONAKILTY Black Pudding, the new premier club partner of Cork City FC have unveiled the new 2012 Away Strip which Cork City FC will be wearing in the Airtricity Premier Division opener against UCD on March 2nd.

The three-year sponsorship agreement will see the Clonakilty Blackpudding distinctive logo displayed on the new Cork City FC home and away strips.

The Clonakilty logo will be on Cork City shirts this season.

ONE of West Cork’s best-known brands, Clonakilty Black Pudding has announced a three-year sponsorship agreement with Cork City FC.

The deal will see the Clon company have its distinctive logo displayed on the new Cork City home and away strips.

The new jerseys will be unveiled in the coming weeks in advance of the 2012 year Airtricity Premier Division where Cork City FC kick off their campaign away to UCD.
