HSE say no reductions in services at St Joseph’s Hospital

THE HSE have confirmed that Castletownbere Community Hospital will not be facing any service reductions or bed closures.

The health body outlined its position in response to a motion raised on the subject by Eyries-based Fine Gael councillor Jerry Sullivan.

The HSE’s response reiterates assurances given to the West Cork Times by the HSE regarding all the community hospitals in West Cork.

Cllr Sullivan asked that, “The HSE South would provide an update on the future plans for Castletownbere Community Hospital, bearing in mind its unique location and the services it provides for the local people.

West Cork hospitals safe say HSE chiefs

NONE of West Cork’s community hospitals will close and none will lose beds, that was the message of HSE chiefs at the launch of the HSE South Regional Service Plan for 2012 at County Hall today.

The plan outlines how the HSE South region intends to spend its funding in 2012 and despite fears that community hospitals across the region would be facing cuts and closures, bosses told westcorktimes.com that there would be no reduction in beds and that no community hospital is facing closure.

The plan does formally include the closure of 16 beds in Clonakilty Community Hospital but these beds have not been in use for some time. [Read more...]
