THE mastermind behind one of the biggest cocaine smuggling operations ever uncovered in Ireland has been sentenced to 28-years in jail by a British court.

A MAN implicated in the smuggling operation behind Ireland’s biggest ever drugs seizure admitted his part in the operation in a London court yesterday.
Forty six-year-old Steven Brown pleaded guilty at Woolwich Crown Court to his part in the bungled operation that saw €440m of cocaine washed up in Dunlough Bay, Mizen in 2007.

AN Englishman wanted for questioning by UK police in relation to the botched Dunlough Bay drug smuggling operation has been arrested in Portugal.

Dances with Waves suspect arrested in UK
AN Englishman has been arrested in Blackpool in the UK in connection with the 2008 capture of €400m cocaine smuggling boat Dances with Waves 170 miles off the West Cork Coast.
The UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) arrested John Alan Brooks (60) who was visiting relatives in the Marton area of the town at the time.
Mr Brooks is originally from Blackpool but has been living in Benahavis near Marbella in Spain.
