clon-camera-club copyJUNE promises to be a very busy month for the club. Instead of the regular meeting the clubs annual outing will take place  to Lismore on Sunday June 9th. This will provide members with many opportunities to take some varied and diverse photos. Names to Nicholas asap please.

 

The clubs annual photo exhibition takes place at the Celtic Ross Hotel from mid June. More details can be found at www.clonakiltycameraclub.net nearer the date.

THE people of Clonakilty, Rossmore and surrounding areas turned out in force on Sunday to welcome home the members of the Kilmeen Drama Group who scored an historic third victory in a row at the All Ireland Open Drama Finals held in Athlone over the weekend.

Mary White Lady President of Clonakilty Agricultural Show with her new hairstyle for the “Tint your hair, think pink or punk” charity drive with Justin Crowley of A Cut Above Hair Salon in Clonakilty.

PIGS may not be flying at Clonakilty Agricultural Show on Sunday, June 9th but they certainly will be racing.

 

A total of 36 pigs will be making the journey from Northern Ireland to Clonakilty for the Cheltenham of Pig Racing.

President Higgins to attend Clonakilty 400 celebrations

After several months of preparations, this Sunday 5th May will be the highlight of 2013 in Clonakilty, when the community celebrates and commemorates four centuries since the granting of a charter which set up the Borough of Cloghnykyltye – the pre-cursor to our modern day Town Council. President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and his wife Mrs Sabina Higgins are guests of honour on this historic and proud day for Clonakilty.

 

 

 

As a community, we are remembering that on 5th May 1613 – 400 years to the day, the charter was granted and stipulated how who would run the affairs of the town. The roles of the Sovereign (Mayor) and Burgesses (Councillors), and the Corporation (Town Council) itself have evolved in the four hundred years to what we have today

CINEMA’S in West Cork offer the best value movie going experience in the whole country, that’s according to a recent survey carried out for RTÉ television’s Consumer Show.

 

The show surveyed 37 cinemas across the country on the price of a regular adult ticket, a small popcorn and a small drink.

Clon RFC notes – Last Chance Saloon

Clonakilty’s troubled season will come to an end this Saturday in The Vale when they host Richmond for Ireland’s last remaining senior ranking position for season 2013 – 2014. By finishing in second last position in the league they threw themselves a lifeline with a play-off against Munster Junior champions and All Ireland Senior Qualifying League runners-up, Richmond from Limerick.

 

Clon’s improved form in recent times and home advantage may well have them as favourites but if so the underdog tag will suit Richmond perfectly.

My friend Tina Pisco recently posted on facebook a advice that decluttering the house and cleaning it might be help against writers block. Maybe it’s that I painted and reorganized my kitchen last week or is it the buzz in town with the west cork really, the spirit of 400 years Clon that I came out of it ?

 

Something is in the air, I struggled since a while to write a review about my favourite lunchtime location, and people who know me well, also after work location, the Scannels in Clonakilty. [Read more...]
