Skibb swimmers complete first endurance test

HE’S more used to being in the open water but the tables were turned for record-breaking endurance swimmer Steve Redmond recently as he was the one shouting encouragement for three novice endurance swimmers.

Man evacuated from tanker en route to New York

The man was brought ashore by the new Baltimore lifeboat Alan Massey.

THE Baltimore Lifeboat was called to assist the Maersk tanker Clarissa yesterday evening, as she was en route to New York.

A merchant seaman aboard the vessel which was 4.8 nautical miles south west of Cape Clear at the time was in urgent need of medical attention.

Subsidised heavy cargo service for West Cork islands

THE Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has approved a heavy cargo service to serve four of West Cork’s inhabited islands.

Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs Dinny McGinley’s sanctioned the grant for Comharchumann Chléire Teo to provide a heavy cargo service to Cape Clear, Sherkin Island, Hare Island and Long Island.
