MOURNERS gathered this week to bid farewell to the owner of Bantry House, Egerton Shelswell-White.
Mr Shelswell-White inherited Bantry House in 1978 and over the last three decades has redeveloped the well-known landmark into one of the country’s premier tourist attractions.
THE Bantry Lifeboat carol concert will take place on Sunday, December 9th in the library of Bantry House.

WEST Cork Music opens its autumn concert series with two eagerly-anticipated concerts in Bantry House in October.
Before they embark on a week of music workshops in County Cork schools, Ireland’s leading young string ensemble, the Callino Quartet, will perform a concert on Sunday October 14th at 8pm. The programme will feature Mozart’s Quartet No. 21 in D major, Ravel’s String Quartet in F major, Dvo?ák’s Cypresses and Janá?ek’s famous String Quartet ‘Kreuzer’.
CLANNAD’S Moya Brennan, the Tulla Céilí Band, uilleann piper Liam O’Flynn and fiddler Martin Hayes will be just some of the traditional musicians performing at the 10th Masters of Tradition which runs from August 15th-19th in Bantry.
To mark the anniversary of the festival there will be a new series of late morning coffee concerts and master-classes to complement the programme of evening performances in Bantry House and St Brendan’s Church.

THE Heritage Council of Ireland has approved funding for a number of West Cork projects in Bantry, Kinsale and Allihies under their 2012 Grant Scheme.
In Kinsale, the Council have approved funding for the preparation of a conservation plan for the restoration of the Napoleonic signal tower as a visitor centre and a panoramic viewing point.
TOP TV chef Richard Corrigan is set to wow diners with a one-night-only “pop-up” restaurant in beautiful Bantry House.
The unique event is part of Bantry Houses’ involvement in the Channel 4 TV show Country House Rescue.
The pop-up restaurant will be housed in the beautiful surroundings of the east stables at historic Bantry House where Corrigan will cook a West Cork inspired, three-course feast.
THE Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar will be the guest of honour at the opening of the 2012 West Cork Chamber Music Festival.
Minister Varadkar will open the nine-day Festival at a special Friends and Patrons reception in Bantry House on Friday, June 29th.
Generously supported by the Culture Programme of the European Union, the Arts Council of Ireland and Failte Ireland, the West Cork Chamber Music Festival runs from June 28th to July 7th.
