WEST Cork-based photographer Phil Pound acheived great success at the Irish Professional Photographers Association Awards Dinner held at the Wood Quay Venue, Dublin recently.

Clon’s Methodist Church is a Green trailblazer

THE Clonakilty Methodist Church community has achieved a first in Ireland with the awarding of it’s second “Eco Congregation” award for reduction of carbon emissions, energy conservation and promoting awareness amongst its faithful on these environmental topics.

Bere Island collect sixth consecutive Tidy Islands award

THE Bere Island Tidy Towns Committee collected their award for winning the Tidy Islands category in the 2012 Tidy Towns Competition at a ceremony in Killarney recently.

It is the sixth consecutive year that Bere Island has won the award.

Mr Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht presented Bere Island with their award at a ceremony held at The Malton Hotel. [Read more...]

BAFTA gong for West Cork’s Graham

BANDON’S Graham Norton has been awarded the BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance.

The West Cork star was unable to accept the award in person at a star-studded ceremony in London as he was in Baku, Azerbaijan presenting the BBC’s coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Castle Hotel scoops second Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Award

MACROOM’S Castle Hotel has beaten off stiff competition to be voted best family hotel by Trip Advisor this week in its  annual Trip Advisor Travellers’ Family Hotel Choice Awards.

The Castle Hotel was ranked within the top 25 hotels in Ireland in the “family” hotel award category by Trip Advisor and in January the hotel was ranked within the top twenty five hotels in Ireland in the “bargain” hotel award category by Trip Advisor. The hotel is no stranger to Tripadvisor and was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for 2011.

Outstanding achievement award for Grainne

WEST Muskerry AC’s Grainne Moynihan was presented with the Cork City Sports Athletics award on Friday, November 4th last at the River Lee Hotel  for her outstanding achievements for the Month of June.

Grainne was well deserving of this award after qualifying for the European Youth Olympics and winning several all Ireland titles in June.
