VILLAGERS in Ardgroom on the Beara Peninsula had a close encounter with one of the biggest gorse fires seen in the area for many years recently.

 

The fire, the biggest of several that took hold in Cork and Kerry lit up the night sky on Saturday night and Sunday morning and measured almost five miles across and could be seen for miles around.

Ardgroom motor neurone disease fundraising weekend

THE community of Ardgroom hosted a fundraising weekend for Motor Neurone Disease recently.

The weekend was a resounding success and the total (after prizes) collected was €3,265.

Funding allocated for West Cork harbour works

PIERS at Pallas, Ardgroom; Keelbeg, Union Hall and Dooneen, Skeaghanore and Schull at Schull have all been included in the current round of funding under the 2012 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Capital Programme.

Keelbeg Pier receives €48,750 for stage two of the construction of a new car park layout and access, separation wall and storage facilities. [Read more...]
