Gardaí appeal for help to identify woman found dead in Kenmare

GARDAÍ in Kenmare have issued a public appeal seeking help to identify a dead woman whose body was found at a holiday home on the Sneem Road two weeks ago.

 

A British passport was found at the scene giving the name of Lalita Sarna, aged 51 but gardaí say the dead woman bears little resemblance to the woman in the passport photo, though they are not discounting entirely that the dead woman may be the woman in the passport.

A CONVICTED drug smuggler’s appeal against his conviction for his part in the Dunlough Bay drugs haul has been refused by the Court of Criminal Appeal.

 

Fifty three-year-old Perry Wharrie, from Essex in England, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his part in the biggest ever drugs seizure in the history of the state discovered at Dunlough Bay on the Mizen Peninsula in July 2007.

Gardaí appeal for information on Skibbereen accident

GARDAÍ at Skibbereen investigating the fatal road traffic collision that happened in the early hours of Monday morning are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

 

Investigating officers are particularly anxious to speak to two men who were at the scene of the collision and gave valuable assistance to ambulance personnel.

Give it some welly for the RNLI Mayday appeal and support West Cork lifeboat stations

mayday1WITH the poor weather, the RNLI is calling on people to put their wellies to good use and support their forthcoming Mayday appeal.

 

The charity that saves lives at sea is asking the public to hold or support a welly themed fundraising event or buy a special yellow welly RNLI Mayday key-ring to raise funds for the lifeboat service which has seven lifeboat stations in Cork. The RNLI Mayday appeal is supported by John West.

GARDAÍ in Kinsale are seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Tuesday, January 29th last at approximately 10.30pm at Compass Quay in the town.

 

A 18-year-old woman sustained injuries as a result of the assault.

Gardaí seek witnesses in Glandore body case

GARDAÍ are asking anyone with any information relating to the body discovered in Glandore on Sunday to come forward.

The body of a 65-year-old man was discovered at 11:15am in a rented flat near the Marine Hotel in the village on Sunday, he has since been identified as Stanley Giles who was originally from Rosscarbery. [Read more...]

Ian Bailey wins appeal against extradition to France

THE Supreme Court in Dublin has upheld Ian Bailey’s appeal against his extradition to France.

The five judges of the court made the decision unanimously.

Mr Bailey is wanted for questioning by the French authorities who have initiated a new investigation into the 1996 murder of French woman Sophie Toscan du Plantier at Toormore, near Schull.

Mr Bailey who lives near Schull was questioned twice in relation to the killing during the original investigation but never charged.
