Caha Centre offering spring programmes

beara-kenamreTHE  Caha Centre Family resource Centre in Adrigole is offering a variety of spring workshops and courses, including:

 

Lauragh Sewing/Quilting/Craft Course.  An opportunity to get together one night a week to explore the crafts of sewing, quilting, crocheting and knitting. The cost to participants would be 30 euro for 6 nights; concessions are available. We need a minimum number of 10/12 participants are needed.

“Huge disappointment” at closure of Beara garda station

A PUBLIC public meeting was held at the Caha Centre in Adrigole on the Beara Peninsula recently to discuss the closure of Adrigole Garda Station at the end of January.

 

The meeting was attended by inspector Joe O’Connor, Sergeant Fachtna O’Donovan and Garda Aidan Cremin who is now being transferred to Castletownbere Station.

A HUGE crowd turned out in Adrigole on Saturday 29th December for the 10th anniversary John Lock O’Sullivan memorial between the Beara 1997 County senior champions against the Adrigole 2006 junior county champions.

Garda station closures “an open invitation to criminals”

Adrigole Garda Station will close.

THE announced closure of 100 Gardá stations across the country in 2013 has left many people worried for the safety of their families and businesses in isolated areas.

 

In the West Cork region the Gardá stations in Adrigole and Ballinspittle have been earmarked for closure, a move, which Beara councillor Danny Crowley (FF) feels will be an open invitation to criminals.

John Lock O’Sullivan memorial game in Adrigole rescheduled

THIS game which was originally due to be played on November 18th but was cancelled due to a bereavement will now take place on Saturday, December 29th in Adrigole at 1.30pm.

The game will feature the Beara team who won the Cork Senior Football Championship in 1997 playing the Adrigole team, which won the Cork Junior Championship in 2006 in a charity match.

John Lock Memorial Game In Adrigole

ON Sunday 18th November in Adrigole @ 1.30 PM the Beara team who won the Cork Senior Football Championship in 1997 will play the Adrigole team which won the Cork Junior Championship in 2006 in a charity match. All proceeds from the day will go towards Bantry Hospital & Co-Action Beara. The game is being organised to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the death of the former Adrigole, Beara & Cork footballer John Lock O’ Sullivan who died so tragically in 2002 at the age of twenty-six.

Save Bantry Bay campaign seeks public support

Marine Harvest says the expansion will create jobs in Bantry Bay.

A CAMPAIGN opposed to the expansion of the Marine Harvest salmon farm at Shot Head in Bantry Bay is seeking support from local people in Bantry and Beara.

 

More than 7,000 homes will be receiving leaflets, distributed by An Post, from the Save Bantry Bay Committee (SBB) calling on all those living and working on the shores of Bantry Bay to oppose any new salmon farm.

Family resource centres report increased demand for services

THE impact of the economic downturn has resulted in a significant increase in both the number and range of responses that Family Resource Centres (FRCs) are delivering in communities across West Cork.

That’s according to the 2011 annual report on the work of FRCs, which was launched recently by the Family Resource Centres National Forum and the Family Support Agency. [Read more...]
