West Cork harbours and piers to benefit from €234,000 funding

ALMOST a quarter of a million euro has been allocated to harbour projects and coastal development programmes in West Cork.

 

The funding has been made available under the Fishery Harbours and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme 2013.

FORMER Irish International and Munster Captain Mick O’Driscoll, together with Irish Women’s International and member of the Grand Slam winning team, Joy Neville, helped launch the 25th Anniversary Heineken Kinsale 7s that takes place in Kinsale over the May Bank Holiday (4th and 5th May).

 

The Heineken Kinsale 7s promises to be a weekend of competitive running rugby for the attractive prize fund of €30,000 as well as a creating a truly festival atmosphere, with over 10,000 visitors expected in the seaside town.

THE removal of Summercove National School from a priority list for new school buildings has been greeted with “shock” by parents and teachers as the school’s 12-year wait for a new building continues.

 

The school has been on the list for the past 12-years but problems with land acquisition have meant that progress has been slow in progressing plans for a new building. more »

Funding boost for West Cork harbours

HARBOURS across West Cork are set to benefit from more than €2,5 million in funding announced by the Department of Transport.

 

The €2,632,000 in funding which is being made available for the maintenance and upgrade of a number of Cork harbours, as part of the agreement which sees the ownership of such transferred to local authorities.

Fisherman dies off West Cork coast

The man is understood to have died on board the trawler.

A FISHERMAN has died after sustaining serious injuries aboard a fishing trawler some 25 miles off the Old Head Of Kinsale in West Cork.

 

The alarm was raised at around 6.30pm last Thursday night when the Dunmore East-based 40ft trawler Liberty requested assistance for a seriously injured crew member.
