The event was organised as part of Bealtaine 2013 activities and the Dunmanway knitting group received a warm welcome from Paula Walker and colleagues in the library and also from ‘The Purlies’, the knitting group based in Macroom Library.

MICC Dunmanway capture camogie title

camogie-dunmanwayMARIA Immaculata Community College Dunmanway defeated Gael Cholaiste Mhuire in the U16 ½ B county final. The match was played in Cloughduv and resulted in the MICC girls taking home the Katie Crowley Cup.

MORE than €100,000 in funding for road maintenance via the Community Involvement Scheme has been announced for the next two years for West Cork.

Free and confidential employment rights information clinics

citizens-informationRECENTLY West Cork Citizens Information Service has noted an increase in queries from the public in relation to their employment rights.

 

These include concerns re non-payment of annual leave, entitlement to public holidays as well as concerns about employees having their working conditions or hours of work changed without consultation.

THE call has gone out to the MacCarthy clan for a very special gathering taking place in Dunmanway later this month.

 

Organised by the Dunmanway Historical Association, with the support of the UCC School of History, the MacCarthys of Cork Cultural and Historical weekend takes place in Dunmanway from Friday May 31 to Sunday June 2.

West Cork couple found guilty of handling stolen property

A LITHUANIAN national living in West Cork has been jailed for a year and banned from Ireland for five years on his release arising out of an investigation into a spate of burglaries throughout Cork and Kerry where over €90,000 worth of property was stolen.

THE refurbishment of Castledonovan Castle near Drimoleague is due for completion this summer, the OPW have confirmed.

 

It is hoped that the castle will be open to members of the public in early June or July.

 

Finance for the refurbishment was officially sanctioned by former minister Síle De Valera in 1991.

Coveney extends imported fodder transport scheme

Farmers queueing for Fodder in Drinagh.

MINISTER for Agriculture Simon Coveney has announced that he has extended the duration of the Imported Fodder Transport Scheme for one week. The scheme will now run until Friday 10th May.

 

The Minister also today confirmed that maize silage is eligible under the scheme. He said his Department has been working with the industry on this and said that large quantities of maize silage up to 6,000 tons are currently being sourced for early delivery to this country. Minister Coveney commended the Dairy co-ops for their work over the past two weeks.

THIS year’s Transition Year Business Projects Awards were announced at a prize-giving ceremony in the Aula Maxima, University College Cork with a team from Maria Immaculata Community College, Dunmanway taking third place overall.

 

The team from Mount St. Michael in Rosscarbery were also awarded special recognition for their efforts.

 

The Transition Year Business Project Awards is an initiative of the UCC Faculty of Commerce and Cork Chamber and are kindly sponsored by BNY Mellon, a global investments company and major employer in Cork.
