Bandon to honour Graham Norton during Rebel Week 2013

BANDON Town Council has approved a proposal to name a picturesque riverside walkway the Graham Norton River Walkway to honour the comedian and famous talk show host.

 

The proposal was made by the Bandon Rebel Week committee as part of the Cork flagship Gathering event, which will run from October 14th-20th.

Free and confidential employment rights information clinics

citizens-informationRECENTLY West Cork Citizens Information Service has noted an increase in queries from the public in relation to their employment rights.

 

These include concerns re non-payment of annual leave, entitlement to public holidays as well as concerns about employees having their working conditions or hours of work changed without consultation.

Graham bags a Bafta

The Bandon native was hosting the glittering awards ceremony in London’s Royal Festival Hall, when he was honoured himself.

West Cork couple found guilty of handling stolen property

A LITHUANIAN national living in West Cork has been jailed for a year and banned from Ireland for five years on his release arising out of an investigation into a spate of burglaries throughout Cork and Kerry where over €90,000 worth of property was stolen.

Insurance “solidarity levy” needed for flooded homeowners

FINE Gael Cork South West Deputy, Jim Daly is calling on the Government to work with the insurance industry to establish a “solidarity insurance flood fund” which could meet the needs of home owners who cannot obtain insurance on their property as a result of having claimed for flood damage in the past.

 

Deputy Daly will be meeting with the CEO of the Irish Insurance Federation, Kevin Thompson, next week to discuss this proposal and to seek support from the Federation.

The organisers of the forthcoming Cork Rebel Week (October 14th – 20th), the flagship Gathering event for Cork, have begun distributing the much anticipated Rebel Passports to the county’s finest.

Graham not over the moon about the statue idea

graham-nortonfpPLANS to erect a statue in honour of TV star Graham Norton in his hometown of Bandon have been described as a ‘waste of money’ by the man himself.

 

The plan was to commission a West Cork artist to design and build the statue, which would then be unveiled by Mr. Norton in Bandon as part of the Cork Rebel Week celebrations in October.

 

However, it appears that Mr. Norton is not in favour of the idea and said ‘I must write to them and beg them not to. It’s such a waste of money and it would look hideous.’
