ONCE again this unlikely West Cork village has planned an outstanding programme of live jazz performance and complimentary fringe events over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
In its usual bid to book the best, the Ballydehob Jazz Festival has bagged the Neil Cowley Trio for this year’s headline slot on Sunday 5th May, Cowley’s only scheduled appearance in Republic of Ireland this spring.

THE wait is finally over and booking for this summer’s West Cork Chamber Music Festival opens on Tuesday 9th April.
More than one hundred musicians will take to the stage in Bantry House and St Brendan’s Church from 28th June to 6th July and with tickets in demand for these intimate performances early booking is advisable to avoid disappointment.

David Syme
BEARA-based musician David Syme will play a one-off concert at Fota House, Fota Island, Cork on Friday, March 22nd next.
The American piano virtuoso has had a long and colourful career performing in Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Centre, Kennedy Centre, Wigmore Hall, and in major venues in 17 European countries, Canada and Mexico.
An alumnus of Juilliard and Indiana University, he was a protégé of the legendary Jorge Bolet and has recorded two dozen CD’s with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, and the Czech National Symphony,
He is best known here for his “Living-Room Concerts”, held about 25 times a year in his the Beara home and has featured on RTÉ’s Nationwide.
AIKEN promotions have announced that following on from two sold out performances last year, Jessie J has confirmed a date at this summer’s Live at the Marquee in Cork for Sunday, July 7th.

THE Cairde Quartet will open West Cork Music’s Concert Series 2013 with a programme of works by Haydn, Mozart, Shostakovich, Beethoven and Piazzolla on Sunday, March 24th at 3pm in Bantry House.
It is four years since the Cairde Quartet first performed in Bantry House when they gave a lunchtime recital during the 2009 West Cork Chamber Music Festival.

CORK’S Live at the Marquee festival has been named as the Best Small Live Music Festival at the IMRO awards 2012 held in Dublin.
Accepting the award, Bren Berry of Aiken Promotions said, “We’re delighted to accept this award from IMRO in acknowledgement of nine great years of putting on gigs at The Marquee in Cork.
THE village of Ballydehob can look forward to a bumper weekend of traditional Irish music, song, dance and entertainment as part of the 2013 Ballydehob Traditional Music Festival which will take place in the village on the weekend of Friday, March 22nd – Sunday, March 24th.
Headlining this year’s festival line-up is one of Ireland’s finest traditional groups The Raw Bar Collective.
