Bandon Mayor calls for immediate action for MSD employees

Bandon Mayor Gillian Coughlan.

BANDON Town Mayor and member of the National Executive of Fianna Fáil, Cllr Gillian Coughlan, has called on the IDA to take immediate action for the 90 employees who are set to lose their jobs at the MSD Facility, based at Brinny, Co Cork.

 

Mayor Coughlan said she was shocked to learn of the impending redundancies from one of the most important employers in the locality, with a current workforce of 450 employees.

Scheme to involve the unemployed in community projects planned for 2013

More must be done to halt youth emigration

LAST  week’s Population and Emigration Survey by the CSO indicated that over 87,000 people left this state last year, an increase of 6,500 over the previous year.

 

The vast majority of those are in the age group of 20-34.

Health Minister Reilly fails to respond to Macroom Hospital Concerns

EMBATTLED Health Minister James Reilly has still not responded to concerns raised over the future of Macroom Community Hospital, nine-months after he was asked.

 

The issue has been raised again by local Fianna Fáil councillor Aindrias Moynihan who described the lack of an official response as “beyond belief”.

Large crowd attend Bandon bond payment protest

Cllr Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin, Cllr Rachel McCarthy, Des O Grady and Paul Hayes at the Bandon protest.

A LARGE crowd attended a protest  in Bandon recently against the payment of €1 billion euro to an unsecured AIB bondholder on October 1st.

Organised by Bandon Sinn Féin but swollen by a large number of locals highlighting cuts in West Cork in education, health/ambulance services, rural Garda stations and household taxes the event received widespread support from the passing public. more »

Announcement of €20m Agri-Environment Options Scheme

THE Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney has announced that he is re-opening the Agri-Environmental Options Scheme (AEOS) to new entrants.

 

Welcoming the move, West Cork Fine Gael TD Noel Harrington said, “This will encourage farmers to adhere to the guidelines set down that will deliver high standards, which will have a positive impact on our Environment.

Bandon anti-debt demo to highlight €1bn bond payment

WEST Cork Sinn Fein will hold a one-hour protest on Bandon Bridge at noon next Saturday (Sept. 29th).

The event is being held to coincide with the payment of a €1bn unsecured bond which is taking place on Monday, October 1st.

Septic tank owners encouraged to register for €5 before Friday 28th

FINE Gael TD Jim Daly, has urged septic tank owners across West Cork to register their system for the reduced fee of €5 before this Friday, September 28th. After this Friday, the registration fee will increase to €50. All systems must be registered before February 1st 2013.
