CORK County Council have issued a boil water notice to consumers supplied with water by the Kealkill Water Treatment Plant.
The Council are currently investigating a possible contamination of the water supply with the Cryptosporidium bug.
Consumers are being advised to boil water as a precautionary measure pending further investigations on the advice of the HSE.
All users on the Kealkill Water Supply Scheme should boil water before use.
Water must be boiled for drinking, drinks made with water, preparation of salads and similar foods which are not cooked prior to eating, brushing teeth and the making of ice.
The Council is advising that a detailed boil water notice and leaflet will be issued to consumers tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
Updates will also be provided on the council’s website.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I would just like to let you know that I have had not had a days good health in the last 4 weeks. Only today I got a notice to suggest that there is cryptosporidum in our water supply, despite the fact that the information notification was printed on the 25th June 2012. I was told by the distributor that this would be gone ‘by this evening’. I don’t know what you are telling your employees, but we all know that this does not go away in days. In fact it takes months or even years, as was evident in Galway over the last few years. It requires a very complicated method of Ion Irridation to rid it completely. Despite the fact that we have to endure weak or non-existent water supply regularly, we are a very quiet people. I do not have health insurance or the money to apply for a medical card, so I demand, due to your negligence that you supply me with the funds to attend my local doctor. If the matter is beyond your remit, I suggest you contact Phil Hogan, post haste. This matter will not die with this email.
