A WELL-known alternative health author who had lived in Glengarriff has died in a gardening accident.
Sixty-year-old Bodo Baginski who was originally from Germany but who had lived in West Cork for the past 20 years died when the ride-on lawn mower he was using to cut the grass for a neighbour toppled over and crushed him.
The accident happened last Tuesday evening, June 5th.
Mr Baginski had a son and two young daughters and it is understood his body was discovered by his partner following the tragic accident.
Mr Baginski lived in an idyllic location on the shores of Bantry Bay at Ardnatrush and had been a long-time supporter of campaigns to clean up the shoreline of the bay.
Local councillor Mary Hegarty said, “It is really shocking news, he was a quiet, private sort of a person and a really nice person.
“The family are very well liked, Bodo had been living here for a long time and was part of the community. It is very sad, it’s tragic,” she said.

my sympathy goes to his family. bodo has left the planet at the time of the very significant venus transit on the very same day. Perhaps he will continue his work on the other side. <3
Bodo , its unbelievable that you are gone. How tragic! your normal routine, doing what you loved and now you are gone. Great memories will live on. Thank you for your great hospitality to me and my family during our visits at your home. Best moments ever ..coupled with stories, singing, guitar playing , photography, exploring the gardens. thank you so much for being a part of our lives. May your soul rest in peace.
Im so sad & shocked to hear this tragic news, I remember him well from seeing him on the market & out & about. My deepest sympathy goes out to all his family. He will be sadly missed . Who would have thought a simple task could end up in such tragic circumstances. May he rest in peace.
Rest In Peace BODO ,
BODO died at Tuesday, June 05, 2012 by a sad accident. His many friends gave him and his wife Ute and children our feelings of sadness and thanks for all he gave us at the websites, post and at the funeral in Coakley’s Funeral Home, Chapel Street, Bantry at Saterday 9th of June.
Bodo was a member of the Save Bantry Bay-Committee. As always he did not say very much but was as always just doing a lot of effective things as :
* making, bringing and hanging around many anonymous Save Bantry Bay leaflets for his anonymous Bantry Bay campagne – which he then alone hung under cover of darkness everywhere, on bridges, lamp posts, on walls, piers and beaches.
* he organized regularly the collection of all waist on the coasts of Bantry Bay by hand by local people to bring it to the dump. !!!! See also: http://www.bantrybayport.com/site26/index.php/shore-cleanup-mainmenu-45 On the first meeting in Adricole he showed a big collection of his photographs.
As Eliane (Markus Wife) said on Wednesday, 6. Juni 2012 on the German Language-website: http://www.irlandnews.com/bodo-j-baginski-abschied-von-einem-freund/
It’s like a very bad dream, but we are awake. It’s true: Our friend Bodo J. Baginski has died last night. Our brain is turning around: suddenly, unexpectedly pulled him out of the midst of life. Bodo did not return from work.
A Writer, a musician, a collector and environmentalist. As well gardener and story-experiencer, traveler and sedentary, professional and amateur, dreamer and a realist, teacher and student, observer and actor, lone wanderer and a caring family man. A friend of water, earth and air. Bodo united many alleged contradictions in a unique personality. He taught us to be an understanding. With us, with our contradictions, with our friends and our opponents.
Where others only talked, he acted: books that no one understood, he wrote again and understandable. He was with his co-author of the world’s Shalila read best-selling author of over 20 works (“Chakra Handbook”, “Reiki Universal Life Energy”).
Where others destroyed, he healed them: dirty beaches, no one wanted to enter anymore, he made through weeks of hard work clean again. Without much ado, Bodo was a preserver, a protector, a friend of beauty. He suffered from the little everyday destruction of others, but he defied the example of the healing action.
Where others only took it, he gave. Bodo was a generous man. He gave, donated, supported and promoted – whether he just had a lot or a little for themselves.
A few weeks ago Bodo became 60 years old, in a few weeks he would become a grandfather for the first time. Bodo died where he was best at what he did best: He had an accident at work in the garden in Ireland, the country to which he came in 1990 and which he loved. Bodo is survived by his wife Ute and four children. We are deeply saddened. We will try to endure it in his sense that he exemplified it to us: We will try to agree.
Elizabeth: I wish you all much love and strength to go on with your memories of him …

Dear Mark, Dear Eliane, Bodo We had met only recently and only met twice – and we were looking forward to seeing you again with this amazing man … words fail us, he just can not be summarized in a few words. We wish all the children and Ute and Bodo friends a lot of courage in this difficult time.
Antje O’Hanlon said at Wednesday, 6 June Wonderfull words for a marvelous man! I can not believe it! My thoughts are with Ute and the girls!
Patricia said at Wednesday, 6 June My deepest condolences to Bodo’s wife and children.
Lothar Luken said at Wednesday, 6 June Yes that’s quite a shock, skin, right inside … I’ve known him since about 20 years – I’ve spoken with him about that time for a donation for Earthwatch and then he has made £ 10,000 loose – and that has saved us time. Later I made then translations done for him – his English was always something rough – including The leaflets also for his anonymous Bantry Bay campagne – which he then hung under cover of darkness on piers and beaches. And yet I’ve got a red Bojan ball for him … maybe I put it on the grave. That must be hard for Ute and the kids – and so far too early.
Anne said at Thursday, 7 June A special thought for you Bodo, I remember your heart so close to home during our visits and a perfect stay in your studio schedule, a beautiful dinner endless reflections and anecdotes, a jam session where one was fun, an unforgettable day of walking and research moved to a beautiful brunette in the company of Gerold, and Markus and Uwe. I will also remember your boots cast in concrete at the entrance and all this world so special that you characterized it and that I enjoyed.

Though we met only a few times, I feel as one who has lost a friend. Bodo shared his abundant knowledge of healing, welcomed the visitor, delighted me with his photographs of gorgeous sunsets over Bantry Bay and caringly stayed in touch. Grateful for our memorable encounter, I sense his lasting inspiration.
Dear family,
my compassion for you. Bodo was such a gentle and giving man. I know him since the 70ies, when he participated in my Reiki group. I inspired him to go to Findhorn. I am full of gratitude for him. He introduced me to Windpferd Publishing Company, where I published my since book “Healing Power of Papaya”. Since then, I published another 3 bestsellers there. Bodo was always generous and full of support. He offered me to spend holidays in his little guest house – for free. We had a friendship full of unconditional love and symphathy. Bodo was one of the most loving persons I ever met. Our sons are of the same age.
If I can support the family in any way, please let me know. I got to know about Bodo´s tragic death only yesterday.
Love, Barbara
