MINISTER of State, Shane McEntee confirmed today the opening immediate of a new forest roads grant scheme.
The primary aim of the Forest Roads Scheme is to provide funding for the construction of management and harvesting roads and other infrastructural works to facilitate timber harvesting.
The Government’s priority is to achieve the best value from the funding available. This, they say, will bring employment opportunities in the construction industry to remote areas which are badly needed.
Local Fine Gael TD Noel Harrington welcomed the move saying, “There were over 200 outstanding applicants at the time of the closure of the old Roads Scheme, whose applications had yet to be determined of approved.
“The Department will be in contact with these contacts shortly to offer them the opportunity to switch over to the new scheme, subject to acceptance of the new terms and conditions”.
