Given Gay Mitchell’s hysteric anti-Martin McGuinness rhetoric during the Presidential Election Campaign, it came as a complete shock to me to see the same Fine Gael candidate beaming in admiration when he held what was an obvious pre-arranged meeting with a hardened IRA man in Clonakilty last Saturday.
This individual, whom I’m sure Gay would probably describe as a “director of terrorism” (he sent others out to do his dirty work for him, which included shooting people in their beds), having been responsible for many outrages as a member of an illegal organisation later went on to become a Sinn Féin TD and Minister for Finance.
Luckily for Gay, the Michael Collins statue was unable to blush with embarrassment when the no hope candidate insisted on being photographed with him!
This blatant glorification of terrorism in the centre of a tourist town means I will not now be voting for Gay Mitchell, and I don’t think anyone else should either!
Go raibh maith agat,
