TWENTY four-year-old Edward Downey from Kilkenny will be attempting a Malin to Mizen challenge with a difference starting on Saturday, September 22nd next.
He is bidding to smash the record for travelling between Ireland’s most northerly and southerly points … on a skateboard!
Edward aims to complete the 412-mile trek in seven days, breaking the existing record of 11 days.
He is undertaking the mammoth task as part of a fundraising campaign in Kilkenny to help provide a skate-park in the city, which is currently the largest town in Ireland without a dedicated skate-park facility.
Two groups, Urban Sports Kilkenny and Kilkenny360 were founded in recent years to support local skateboarders, rollerbladers and bmx-ers who have been campaigning for a skate-park facility for several years.

Ed will be aiming to get in to Cork either the Friday of the saturday. His Twitter and Facebook pages will both be giving progress as he goes: https://www.facebook.com/groups/433499563356184/439127699460037/?notif_t=group_activity
