IT has been one of the best known retail names in Cork for almost 40 years, but now, after 38 years of trading, electrical retailer Flor Griffin is closing for good.

The company began trading from a premises on Bandon’s South Main Street in 1975 and grew to become one of the biggest electrical retailers in Munster.

Currently there are three stores in operation on the Bypass Bandon, Ballincollig and in Cork city.

Mr Griffin has lived in Florida for several years now and is understood to have sought a buyer for the company but none was forthcoming.

The Bandon store is due to close by the end of this month and a closing down sale is underway.

The closure of the three stores will result in 15 job losses.

  2. Bought some great stuff at Flor Griffin over the years at very reasonable prices. Will be such a shame to see it gone. What a loss.
