THE continued poor weather threatened to disrupt the holding of the fourth round of the Celtic Ross SWCYRA in Schull last Sunday.
However the forecast southeasterly wind did not materialise and the predicted heavy rain didn’t start to fall until nearly five o’clock, when 13 of the scheduled 18 races were completed.
In all the GalleyFlash competed in 15 of the 18 races, finishing up in the top three in 10 of those races.
The top performers for the club on the day were the Under 12 crew of Alison Taylor, Laura Ahern, Ian O’Keeffe and Anais O’Donovan crossing the finish line in first place. A fantastic result for a crew who were rowing together for the first time.
In total six of the Galley crews finished their races in the runners-up position:
Senior Mixed:- Niamh Hayes, Paul Deasy, Barry Hooper and Fiona Connolly
Under 14 Ladies:- Claire McCarthy, Keri Ahern, Aoife O’Keeffe and Fiona Tobin
Senior Ladies:- Niamh Hayes, Lisa Hayes, Donna Burke and Laura Connolly
Junior Men:- Micheal Harrington, Ger Cullinane, Dave McCarthy and Paddy Harrington
Senior Men:- John Harrington, Sean Keohane, Paul Deasy and Barry Hooper

While three of the Galley teams took home the third placed prize:- The Under 12 Ladies crew of Alison Taylor, Laura Ahern, Anais O’Donovan and Sinead O’Connor; Under 18 Ladies: Marie Tobin, Catherine McCarthy, Ciara Rahilly and Danielle Hayes and the Junior Ladies crew of Mary Ann McCarthy, Catherine McCarthy, Ciara Rahilly and Fiona Connolly.

With just over a week to the All-Ireland Finals the club is in great shape for what should be a hectic weekend in Broadstrand, Courtmacsherry.
Next Sunday the final round of the SWCYRA championship will be held in Glandore.
In other news some of the clubs members had a hectic week during the Ardfield Summer Festival, helping out organising some of the events and selling Festival draw tickets.
The club is one of this year’s beneficiaries from the festival, so a massive thanks goes to those who helped make the festival such a success.
Thanks also to the festival organising committee for selecting the club to share in its proceeds.
