Clon to wrap up season with a party

by Loose Head

A historic season in many ways draws to a close as the underage celebrate and the senior section regroup. In line with the determination to bounce back from the recent setback the season will not end on a low note, rather it will go out with a bang celebrating all the qualities and achievements of which Clonakilty can be justifiably proud.

The club is holding a Barbecue and Social Night in The Vale on this Saturday night May 11th to mark 35 great seasons of Clonakilty Rugby. The club is also delighted to announce that guest of honour for the evening is Munster and Ireland rugby player, Grand Slam winner Laura Guest. Festivities kick off at 9.00pm.

Clon RFC notes – Last Chance Saloon

by Loose Head

Clonakilty’s troubled season will come to an end this Saturday in The Vale when they host Richmond for Ireland’s last remaining senior ranking position for season 2013 – 2014. By finishing in second last position in the league they threw themselves a lifeline with a play-off against Munster Junior champions and All Ireland Senior Qualifying League runners-up, Richmond from Limerick.

Clon’s improved form in recent times and home advantage may well have them as favourites but if so the underdog tag will suit Richmond perfectly.

Richmond to face Clonakilty in Ulster Bank League Division 2B next weekend as Skibbereen book place in the semi-Final of the Munster Junior Cup Richmond kept alive their hopes of a return to Senior rugby after they finished runners up in the All Ireland Provincial League Championship after their 15-5 away win over Portadown.

Clonakilty may face playoff for survival

by Loosehead

Clonakilty 15, Naas 21

Clonakilty may well have to face a play-off with one of the provincial junior champions to maintain their 12 year senior All Ireland League status following a narrow heart-breaking loss to Naas last Saturday in The Vale.

It was billed as a must win game and it may well prove to have been that given results elsewhere.

If this is to be their fate it will most definitely not be because of this game and the finger will be pointed at the away games with Sligo and Suttonians where three try and big leads were squandered.

The team that turned up against Naas would have comfortably taken ten points from those games and Clon would have gone on to contest the placing’s at the other end of the table.
